I’ve now officially been on the road for a week! I got up to just under 50 miles today making my way into Longview, right on the Oregon border.
Here are a few pics from today’s ride:
Apologies to my vegetarian/vegan friends on this one, but it was such an awkward moment, I had to share it. Along the way today I had picked up a hamburger that I started munching on while riding. When I left Chehalis, most of everything out there was farmland, and with farmland comes cows.
I pulled over to the side of the road for a moment to adjust one of my packs, half-eaten burger in hand. I looked up and in front of me was a cow, who was a little startled and suddenly stopped doing that weird side-ways chewing that cows do.
We locked eyes as I raised my head up and I stopped chewing on my hamburger as well. He looked at me, I looked at him. Then I looked at him some more, and he looked back at me. We just sat there awkwardly looking at each other for a few seconds and for some reason I wasn’t all that hungry anymore. I wrapped up the rest of my burger in my pack and got back on the road.
Subway Attempts a Pun
Coming into Cowlitz County, I came across this sign:
Get it? “Environmental Threat”? Take that Subway!
Since I’m in Longview today, I got to stay with Amanda’s parents. Karen made an amazing home-cooked meal including some apple pie for dessert! Being able to see friends and family along the way on this journey is excellent as it’s been a bit lonely out on the road.
Tomorrow I’ll be in Portland and will meet up with Amanda’s sister Jennifer and her fiance Adam.
