I began to head to the coast today from Portland. I went about 45 miles into McMinnville along Highway 99. Today’s ride was way more enjoyable than yesterday as I rode through a lot of neighborhoods and vineyards along the way.
I rode through Portland this morning. There were barely any cars out at all, so I was able to fly through the city pretty quickly.
On my way out stopped at Voodoo Donuts to get some sugar in me before the ride. The nice thing about heading out so early is the lack of a line - literally walked right up to the counter!
It was a pretty steep climb leaving Portland, but the view from the top was fantastic!
I generally followed Highway 99 today.
Although I went through the neighborhoods along the way and the trails within those neighborhoods. This was so much better than just taking the highway straight through. It makes for a longer ride, but a much more enjoyable one. Here are a few shots I took along the way.
Getting to Mcminnville
The trails took me out in the country a bit where I rode through open fields.
And then through vineyards.
And finally to Mcminnville.

I laid down for just a quick rest this afternoon and woke up 2 hours later…
I’m staying in an Airbnb room tonight and found a cat buddy who’s been hanging out with me while I write this. He’s been purring and cuddling with me for hours, but his face looks like he’s super mad all the time.
I grabbed a slice of pizza in downtown McMinnville, and at the bar, they have these comically small chairs for the bar instead of bar stools. I tried sitting there, and the bar came up to my upper chest :P
I should be making it to the coast tomorrow in Lincoln City.
PS This whole no sales tax in Oregon thing is incredible!
